Loko in the Brain-o?

Today is a special day. Why? The Seahawks play tonight again the Raiders. BOO! Sorry, (but not sorry) expect lots of football talk until the Superbowl in February. That gives me SIX more months of football talk. There will probably be another month of football withdraw talk too! 🙂

On another note….guess what? I got in a hefty 22 mile ride in last night. Even managed to ride up the Beaver Lake Triathlon bike course giant hill. Felt great, but I was pooped once I got home.

Plus, I am a wee bit sore ‘there’. You probably know what that means…..today I will take a break from the saddle

Let’s talk about what is on my bucket list…Do YOU have one?

Not too long ago, I overheard a co-worker of mine talking about doing a             Half Ironman.

I was instantly intrigued and wanted to learn more about his training. I was interested to find out how he did and how he felt the day after. I was shocked that he came to work the Monday following the half Ironman. I would probably still be living in an ice bath. Just kidding! I hope?!

The word Ironman is very intimating.  Put the word half in front, still scary. But a goal isn’t a goal without some fear involved. Because then you would just do everything on your list constantly. It is nice to spread it out and conquer the things that scare you. An Ironman SCARES me. That is why it is on my LIST.

I am definitely not training for an Ironman or half Ironman anytime soon, maybe in a few years. First, I should probably run a marathon. A lengthy twenty-six point two miles. Just in case you forgot…a little refresher.

I feel like my goals or wishes can be all over the place. I feel like a marathon is a feasible goal for next year. Hooray for 2014, but lets finish 2013 on a good note too!

This is my favorite, because I have HALF way there. That means I CAN do it!

Have you ever felt all over the place with what new goal you want to begin training for?

What is on your bucket list?

Mid-life crisis?

Top of the mornin’ to ya! How’s everyone doing on this Wednesday morning?!

I have to just say, there is nothing like a quick bike ride at dusk! Last night after getting my hair done, I decided to take the new road bike out for a spin. I mean, honestly it is getting to be a little bit pathetic how excited I get taking her out. Yes, her. No name just a gender! 😉

It was around 7:30 when I headed out. Managed to squeeze in ten miles before it started getting too dark. Note: Need headlights and clear glasses. Nerd alert.

I lol’d when I saw this…

Word! Even better when you can bike to a brewery! And when was the last time someone said this to you?

Anywho, lets switch gears to something more important? ehh..

Warning! Warning! There’s a picture-less post ahead…Lots o’ words.

It has been ten days since I turned twenty-five years old. Old? Shouldn’t I say young? I never knew what twenty –five would feel like. Over the past few years, I always had a thought that I would have my break down or mid-life crisis at or around twenty-five. How do I feel now that the big 25 came around?

I feel like a spring chicken, as my dad would say. I don’t feel any older. Age is just a number and I don’t want to associate myself with all the numbers hanging around. Age, weight, height etc. It is just a number that will not take over my life or bring me down. This is my new motto.

I know, I am not the only one to feel this way. We all get older and this means we get wiser right? I know that I am better than I was five years ago. Or even one year ago. I have found discovered new passions like blogging and re-creating recipes. Honestly, blogging has made me so happy. Everyone has so many thoughts and ideas running through their minds daily, and for me, typing it all out has helped me improve overall. Improve as in being able to open up more, discover new things, learn from others and overall joy!

I foresee that my twenty-fifth year will be full of races, training and commitment. I want to become a better person, athlete, daughter and friend (maybe girl-friend?). Who knows. I have nothing stopping me. Expect for maybe myself. Err..

Thank you to all my supporters out there. I know this was a more serious post, but it was needed! 🙂

How did you feel about turning a quarter of a century?

Do you have fancy gadgets on your bike?

SIX Days left…

Mark your calendars people! SIX more days until the Overlake Medical Center Labor Day Half Marathon! Of course, I will be participating this year. I am beyond stoked for the following reasons:

1. It is my first half marathon of the year. Can you believe it?!

2. The race is close by which is a major bonus. I could probably throw a rock and it will land at the start line. Just kidding!

3. The course is flat which means it will be a fast and steady race! 🙂

The Labor Day Half is a great way to end the summer on a good note. Why wouldn’t you want to end summer with a Half Marathon? That’s right, you wouldn’t!

“It is one of the flattest half marathon courses in Western Washington with less than 130 feet of elevation. It is known for many personal records for runners.”

If you didn’t know already, this race brings elite athletes from all over the country because it also serves as the NW USA Track & Field Half Marathon Championships. No big deal.  HA!

It would be an honor to watch these elite athletes run and pass by me at an alarming rate. Well, actually they would start far in front of me. Meh.

Personally, I love the route. I’ve biked and run the course quite a few times. As locals would say, “it’s our turf.” On race day, runners will start at Marymoor Park in Redmond and run on the Sammamish River Trail. It is quite a beautiful trail.

Not only are the sponsors great, but you can celebrate your finish with a Mac & Jacks beer. Hello! De-yummmm! I’ll probably be thinking about the beer pretty hard at mile 9-10. I may just run directly to the beer garden at the finish. No stopping for post race photos or anything. Just kidding..or am I? 😉

You can also grab some yummy goodness from HP Smokehouse BBQ and relax with some live music.

For all of the super speedy runners out there, you’re in luck! The race will provide you with half marathon pacers. The Club Northwest based out of Seattle, will provide pacers for the following finish times: 1:30, 1:40, 1:45, 1:52, 2:00.

Awards? Heck yes! Along with a beer as an award for killing yourself (not literally), race awards will be given to the super speedy men and women (1st, 2nd, 3rd) in each age group!

The Half Marathon will begin at 9 a.m. SHARP with awards at Noon! I hope to see you there. Or you can cheer me on! I’ll feel the love I am sure! 🙂 You have SIX more days to register and there is DAY OF registration!

Will you join me?

What is your favorite distance to run?

 XO, Tara

Blueberry Banana Cookies

FINALLY! I have my recipe for What The Bake Friday Sunday.

Sorry that it took sooo long.

IMG_2343[1]Last Sunday, my dad and I went blueberry picking. We ended up getting like 5 pounds for $4.50. What a steal! I am now obligated to bake lots of goodies with blueberries.

I found this recipe on Instagram. Kellie has so many wonderful recipes!

Blueberry Banana Cookies

Yields: 18 cookies

 3 ripe bananas- mashed

3 egg whites

¼ cup applesauce

2 tbs water

¼ cup +2 tbs Coconut flour

1/3 cup oat flour

1 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking powder

¾ cup blueberries (I used ½ thawed blueberries)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix wet ingredients together in a bowl.

Mix together dry ingredients and add to the wet ingredients.

Mix more…

Pour in blueberries and knead with your hands.

Roll dough into individual small sizes and place on a greased cookie sheet.

Bake for 20 minutes.

Let cool on a cookie rack for 10 minutes or so.

I know you want one. A perfect snack for the cookie and blueberry lover!

Have you gone blueberry or berry picking before?

What is your favorite snack?
