Yuppies n’ Boots

Good morning!

Ok, Fall is officially here. The rain, wind and cold is back and coming with vengeance. It hasn’t stopped raining since Friday? or was it Thursday? See, it is all blending together now.

I have come to terms that I need the following: A rain jacket and rain boots.

Can you believe that I don’t own a pair of rain boots nor a rain jacket? Yes, it is true. Not sure how I’ve lived twenty five years with either. I am sure when I was like a foot tall I had some fairy pink rain boots.

I am sure they were similar to these, but not the brand Kidorable. Whatt?

Next up the rain jacket. Yes, I have just lived in Northface fleece jackets or like a ski jacket. Never officially had a “rain jacket.” This is what I want.

Something simple that does it’s job! It would have been nice to have one on Saturday.

I went to the Kirkland Oktoberfest and it was a wet wet mess. See the guy in the background knows what is up….he came prepared in his rain jacket!

I am digging sweet potato fries right now. SO SO GOOD! You’d think that beer and rain just go together here in Seattle. 😉

Sunday began with a 60 minute Flywheel class.

This is how I roll. UGGS n’ Flywheel shoes.

These yummy yummy treats came in too!

The brand new Double Chocolate Chunk Quest bars came in. They are probably #1 in my book…right up there with the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

The rest of Sunday involved Football and Yuppies Tavern. The Seahawks pulled a WIN yesterday over the Texans. See, I told ya…Seahawks are unstoppable.

The scenery inside was actually pretty entertaining. Yes, there are feet hanging from above.

We stayed for a little bit to watch our friends band play, have a few beers and some grub.

IMG_2889[1]Good ol’ grilled cheese with yes more sweet potato fries.

I need to lay off the fried starch for a while.

Do you like sweet potato fries?

Rain boots? Yay or Nay?

Eating Texans for Breakfast.

Obviously, you can tell where I am going with this….I am off to Flywheel for an intense 60 minute spin class.

I always feel better after a good ass-kicking. Flywheel is the best for an ass-kicking. Do a double and its a double wammy! You’ll LOVE it though.

I will make it home for the kick off DUH!! In case you were wondering!

I made this scrupulous smoothie the other day. I’ve been waiting patiently to share it…

Green Strawberry Banana Smoothie

1 scoop Designer Whey Strawberry Protein powder

1 handful spinach

3/4 cup water

5 ice cubes

1/2 tsp xanthan gum

1/2 small frozen banana

Mix everything together in your blender!!

It is essential to re fuel your body after an intense workout like Flywheel, Flybarre or whatever your workout regimen is. Make sure to eat protein 20 minutes after your workout. This is will significantly help repair and grow your muscles.

We all want strong muscles right?! RIGHT!!

Fuel your body right today!

We all need tips.

Other than being up at the ass crack of dawn on a SATURDAY, I am peachy.

How about you? I am off to work at Flywheel this morning. ❤

After work, my ass is either taking a Flywheel class or heading to the gym. I feel like I’ve been slacking this week on the workout front, but I guess I’ve had excuses. An ER visit and lots of Flywheel training. Well, I guess I really only missed two days, but this isn’t usual for me.

I haven’t been able to get a good run in lately. Damn you Seattle weather. Looks like I’ll be waiting until next week…yet again. On the topic of running, I was reading an article recently regarding how to become a better runner.

Every runner can benefit from some tips here and there. Just don’t overwhelm us with facts or we will just tune you out. Who is with me on that?!

Hopefully more than just one. 😉 Here are some of my tips.

1. Have the correct shoes. Yes, what you wear is important. The wrong shoes will do one thing- hurt you. Plain and simple people. The cost of an injury is more than a good pair of shoes. Go to a specialized shoe store and get fitted by a professional. I recommend Road Runner Sports or Shoes N’ Feet.

2. Keep with it and be consistent. You don’t get better with practice right? Right! However, if you want to get faster or run longer you’ll need to adjust your workouts. Train for a half marathon, marathon, 10k, ultra run, or whatever.

3. EAT! I used to be one of those people who wouldn’t fuel their bodies before a run or spin class. No fuel in the body= no energy. No energy= a poor workout.

4. Mix up your terrain or scenery. Go for trail running or go on a hike. The different terrain works different muscles as well as help strengthen the muscles used while running.

5. Stay hydrated. Hydrating your body is super-duper important. If you don’t drink enough before or during a run, then you’ll find yourself become fatigued quicker. Add some propel or fruit to your water for a better taste.

What are your running tips?

What are your favorite shoes?

Do you run outside in crappy weather?

Maple Goodness

True dat. It is about time Friday rolled around. What.A.Week!

But, Friday means….

I made these yummy bites last weekend.  These bites have a little taste of fall in them. Yummmm maple!

(adapted from Lindsay at Cottercrunch.com)

¼ cup almond meal

1/3 cup peanut butter

6 Tbsp Vanilla Designer Whey

¼ cup maple syrup

¼ tsp vanilla extract

1/8 cup ground walnuts (optional)

Mix ingredients together in a medium sized bowl. Roll dough into small bite size balls and freeze. Once frozen, coat the bites in protein powder. Yields 10-12 bites. Freeze or keep in the fridge (up to two weeks).

I couldn’t stop with just one. Believe me!

What are your fall recipes?

Do you like maple?

Scenes from inside the ER

Good morning!

{Warning} Non-running related post ahead…

I am pretty sure I know now to navigate Overlake hospital quite well now. After  four hours sitting in the ER, my dad was admitted. Long story short, he’s had quite extensive health problems over the years. Hopefully, we find something out today. Lots of tests were ordered as usual.

Lovely pictures of the ER room. At least we were able to watch the news and play along with Wheel of fortune and Jeopardy. 😉

Plus, I know where every single Starbucks is located.

Another plus, I start my training at Flywheel! I am super excited…if you cannot tell! 🙂

I’ll have an update soon, I hope!! I hope you have a marvelous Wednesday. We are half way to the weekend!

Why you should go trail running

Happy Tuesday!

I have to brag for a second. So Payton Manning is kill’n it for my Fantasy Football League!! He is my lucky charm.

On another note…A few weeks ago my parents showed me a new trail to take the dogs on. Apparently, it isn’t so new…and it is quite popular for walking, running, biking and horseback riding. Who knew?!

I spy a tiny cute doggie!

My mom mentioned that it would be a great area for trail running. Obviously, I need to pay attention to the signs and have my phone with me at all times. Safety first.

Here are some reasons why you should go trail running!

1. It is relaxing. Trail running allows you to take a mental break and enjoy the scenery. This also gives your feet a break from pounding asphalt.

2. It makes you faster. Trail running typically involves hills and running up hills makes you stronger. It helps you strength the muscles that you use when running on a flat surface. This can lead to more PR’s!

3.  Fewer breaths. You won’t be inhaling car fumes, fast food, or cigarette smoke. Instead, you’ll be inflating your lungs with good ol’ fresh oxygen.

4. It’s good for your joints. The surface acts as a shock absorber. Pavement does not give you this benefit.

5. It gives you shade and keeps you cool. This is great during the summer months when it quite warmer. The trees give you the shade that you need to keep cool. This means you can run farther!

Now get on out there and find a trail. Another reason why I love the PNW, there are so many trails and mountains to run and hike!

Do you like to go trail running? Or will you now?

XO, Tara

Pumpkin Boat

Monday….again! Are you shocked as much as I am?

I may be behind the curve, but it is officially fall. I am not sure how I feel about this. It occurred to me when I was typing the date this morning, when I read September 23. Where did September go?

I think it just hit on me, because we had our first rain storm last night and of course my car was completely covered in damn pine needles. I freaking hate them with a passion, plus I just vacuumed out my car. Pointless, I tell ya.

However, aside from the fact that Seattle will see nothing but drizzling rain till about June, fall is actually a beautiful time for the Pacific Northwest. The changing leaves, adventure runs, Halloween, Thanksgiving, pumpkins, decorating, football, etc.

The Pineapple Classic. Apparently you have to run with a pineapple.

I just love picking, carving and decorating pumpkins. It is a messy fun good time.

Wait what? Pumpkin boat?

Fall also means, running in the rain and dodging puddles.

Before we know it, 2013 will be over. I cannot believe how time has flown by. However, fall is full of holidays which is awesome!

First up: Halloween!

I’m not the biggest Halloween fan. One because I am a scaredy cat and two I don’t like to dress up in tiny winnie clothing looking like a sloot. (aka slut). Yes, I said it. I know that I don’t have to wear next to nothing, but typically those are the costumes that you see unless it is homemade.

Anywho, enough with that tangent.

What do you like most about Fall?

Do you like to dress up for Halloween?
