All Hallows’ Eve

Happy All Hallows’ Eve!

Are you scared yet? Or been scared? Or eaten too much candy already? Me? Not scared yet, but I am sure it will happen.

Have you ever wondered why many celebrate this scary holiday? All Hallows’ Eve takes place on October 31st every year and dedicates itself to remembering the dead. Many believe that on this day the worlds between the living and the dead are overlapped and the deceased would come back to life. Probably why we see witness so many zombie flash mobs or those who just enjoy dressing up as “the dead.”

However, most of us enjoy the full aspects of All Hallows’ Eve by dressing up, attending parties, trick-or- treating, visiting “haunted houses,” carving pumpkins and creating yummy treats.

I celebrated Halloween this past weekend with family and friends. I dressed up as Lady Gaga and danced the night away. Well, I danced, drank, sat and chatted. Nothing too crazy. 🙂

Here’s a recap of the night. Lady Gaga, Mozart, Adele, Pink, Cher (Sonny’s other half) and Katy Perry showed up. Along with many more….

012 010 013

017 020 027Adele n’ Gaga. (aka, Mom and I)023Overall, it was a fabulous night of dancing, singing and hanging out with everyone.

Would I do it again? Yes. I had a great time. However, I won’t be dressing up today. I have to work both jobs and worked both jobs last night. So, I didn’t have time to put together a quick costume. Lady Gaga’s costume isn’t appropriate for work. Lame right? lol.

What do you love most about Halloween? Candy, people watching, dressing up?

What are you/or did you dress up as?

Worse Halloween outfit to date?

8 Things Every Happy Woman Should Have

I came across 8 Things Every Happy Woman Should Have from Lisa @ Lisa Lately. I enjoyed reading her answers, so I decided to make my own.

It is always a good refresher to remind yourself of all the things that make you happy, especially when you have those bad days. CaptureRemember when bad days come, think about all the things that make you happy. Pull out a good book, go workout or bake something new.

Like people say, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!”

What makes you happy or cheers you up?

Do you have a go-to book or movie?

What Perfect is to Me.

The subject of perfection is a double edged sword. We all strive to be perfect, only to fail in the end. No one is perfect, regardless of how they try to convince you that they are. I cannot even define the word perfect. Can you?

According to Google; “perfect is having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.”

Well, that explains it perfectly right? Wrong. What are desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics? Never failing? Never taking a risk? Never making a mistake? Never farting? Having the perfect body? Ehhh

I remember when trying to determine my flaws or areas that needed improvement when preparing for an interview years ago. I knew I’d be asked, “Tara, what are your weaknesses?” At first, I struggled with this. What areas in my life needed improvement?

Did I procrastinate?  (hell no, I hate waiting till the last minute)

Did I always want to be right? (Yes, I try too…lol)

Did I always want things to be perfect or on point? Yes, I always wanted to please others and do everything correct. I would beat myself up when I did it wrong, because it wasn’t perfect for the first time.

I’ve come to terms with this, since determining that this isn’t feasible. I would never be perfect. I can only control doing the best that I can. I cannot be the perfect runner, daughter, friend, blogger, coworker or have the perfect body. I can only try really really hard to be a good runner, daughter, friend, blogger, coworker and treat my body with respect. I am okay with this and continuing to work on my own issues with body image.

From now on, perfection isn’t in my vocabulary. Perfection cannot be defined.

What are your thoughts on the idea of perfection?

Have you ever analyzed your weaknesses or areas that need improvement?

Zombies Everywhere!

If you aren’t aware yet, flash mobs are popping up everywhere. Yesterday, I went to my first zombie flash mob. I wasn’t sure what to expect really other than people dressing up as zombies.

By golly was I right! I mean, it’s pretty clear what was going to happen but hey you never know. Basically one of the main streets was taken over my “made up” dead people. Some of the costumes were quite interesting. The whole idea of zombies creeps me out regardless of the fact that it’s not “real.” But this girl watches Walking Dead so at least I know how to potentially kill them if the world is ever taken over by these creatures. haha.

Once the zombies walked down the Main Street, they did a dance to “Thriller.”

They obviously started out on the ground then rose from the dead to dance. It was very funny because most of the zombies didn’t know the “moves” but neither do I.
Sadly, I was never a huge Michael Jackson fan. Shame on my parents. Just kidding.
Other than that, the Halloween party was Friday night. It was a blast. I’ll share more about that later! 🙂 If you follow me on Instagram then you saw my costume!
Have you seen a zombie flash mob or been apart of one?
Did you celebrate Halloween over the weekend?
Have a great Football Sunday! The Seahawks play tomorrow night! Whoop whoop!

If we had coffee…

Lately, I’ve been seeing quite a few “If we had coffee posts.” I thought, “Self, what a great idea!” If you cannot meet up in person why not chat about what you would talk about if they were sitting next to you.  Plus, I love coffee and Seattle is the birthplace of one of the largest coffee chains…can you guess which one? LOL.

If we had coffee…I’d tell you that I want to change my blog to a self-hosted blog, but I don’t know how. Basically, this girl needs some assistance asap.

If we had coffee…I’d tell you that even though the Seattle Marathon is coming up on December 1, 2013, I decided not to do the marathon. Instead, I’ll be running up and down Seattle for the half marathon. I chose to do this, because I don’t have enough time to train for the full and also Seattle has hills people. I don’t want my first marathon to be a super duper hilly race.

If we had coffee…I’d tell you that I am a pansy when it comes to running in colder weather. It takes time for this body to adapt to the colder temperatures. Hello, even 50 degrees is brisk. The last few races were quite chilly for my liking…but once you get your legs moving you do warm up as we all know.

If we had coffee…I’d tell you that I just “froze” my gym membership. Yes, I did it. One, because who doesn’t like to save money each month. Two, I have Flywheel to kick my ass as much as I want. Three, my parents have a “dreadmill”. Four, I can get my ass outside and run.

If we had coffee…I’d tell you that Walking Dead and Breaking Bad are amazing shows. If you haven’t watched, then holy moly you NEED TOO! Get Netflix and join in on the fun. Plus, you get used to seeing all the zombies and how gross they are over time.

If we had coffee…I’d tell you that I am a secret book nerd. It comes in phases though. In the winter, I tend to sit down more to read or read on the “dreadmill.” I really want to read Alliegent by Veronica Roth. It just came out!!! J

If we had coffee….I’d want you to tell me something interesting! I mean, yes I love talking about myself. That’s why I have this blog right? Yes and no. I thoroughly enjoy getting to know all of YOU.

If we had coffee, what would YOU want to talk about?

What fun activities are you up to today?

What is your favorite coffee brand or type of coffee?

XO, Tara

What the Bake Friday

…is BACK! Lately, I just haven’t had a spare moment to bake or create something that I haven’t tried.

But I have a super easy recipe for Sweet Potato Chips. Don’t they just look delicious? I love me some sweet potato chips or fries.

Adapted from Barr and Table.

What do you need?

1 glorious sweet potato.

This could be the easiest recipe I’ve posted yet. Trust me, cutting bananas and freezing them takes longer. Plus it is messier and duh you have to wait for them to freeze. Unless you have dry ice, then you’re golden in just a few seconds. 😉

You have two options: 1. Cut up the sweet potato into thin slices or cut a sweet potato into thirds and soak in water for roughly 5 minutes. I chose to cut a sweet potato into thirds. Then dry the sweet potato and cut into thin slices if not done so already. Place the slices onto a paper towel and place into the microwave for 3 minutes on high. Yes microwave….this is the quick version, yet still effective and yummy. Flip the slices then cook for another 3 minutes.

Only a few of my slices were crispy so I flipped again and cooked for another minute and did the same again for the other side. Obviously go longer if you want them crispy crispy.

Let cool for a minute or so, then dig in. Eat them plain like I did or dip them into a sauce of choice. I’m plain jane, so naked was best for me! 🙂

Tonight I have the Halloween party with the folks! I get to wear my Lady Gaga outfit. Hopefully, I don’t freeze my tail off.

Do you like Sweet Potato Chips or fries?

How do you cook or bake them?

Do you have any Halloween Parties tonight or this weekend?

Favorites from the ’90s.

Thursdays are great for one main reason…that tomorrow is Friday. Whoop, whoop.

I have my Halloween party tomorrow with the family and friends at a nearby bar. The theme of the party is music. Basically, everyone will be dressing as singers/musicians. Guess who yours truly will be? Well, she showed up at an awards show in a giant egg. Ponder that for a second.

GAGA, OOH LA LA, GAGA. Yep, Ms. Gaga herself. Don’t worry it will be a super warm outfit. Ha, YA RIGHT. Hopefully, the beer will keep me warm.

Speaking of singers/musicians, I was listening to the “boy bands” station on Pandora the other day. Who doesn’t love singing old songs by the Backstreet Boys or N*sync? I’ll sing all day long in my car.

This lead me to think about all the interesting aspects of the 90’s. A few that came to mind were: Boy bands, The Furby, tracksuits and the Tamagotchi.

I discovered a list of 50 Sign That You Grew Up In The ’90s. I found this list to be quite humorous, because I had forgot about all the crazy crap that came out.

Here are some of my favorites from the list.

1. Overalls. We all wore them at some point.

2. Fortune Teller. Wow, I forgot about the fortune teller. We all took this quite seriously.

3. Dunkaroos. Remember? So good!!

4. Folding notes.

5. Mr. Sketch markers.

6. MASH!!! Ahh, the most important game ever to determine how your entire life would turn out. 🙂

7. Furby. The most annoying toy ever.

8. Oregon Trail. You remember. Plus we had to play it on a computer screen that was 5×5, if that!

This really made me think about how children are growing up now. They have never used a floppy disk, seen a VHS or used a gameboy. They have Ipads, DVD’s and Facetime. Time has changed dramatically. I cannot wrap my head about it.

Did you grow up in the 90s?

What were your favorite memories?
