Build Those Guns

Everyone wants toned arms for the summer right? Adds to that dress or tank top look right? In the past few months, I’ve been working hard on toning my arms by focusing on the biceps, triceps and shoulders. I’ve seen a huge difference which is a plus. I can seem them gains!

I’ve learned that going heavier for shorter reps strengths our muscles faster…I could be wrong since I am no personal trainer or expert on gaining muscle. So lately, I’ve been trying to up my weight and reduce the reps.

Here is my latest workout for burning out my biceps. (Note: I do some weighted bicep curls prior to starting the workout)

I feel like the weak link when I say I used 15lbs for this workout, but after three rounds I was fatigued. Plus, like I mentioned I did prep for this workout and did some bicep curls after this workout just to make sure that I was extra fatigued. Makes sense right? I wanted to make sure that I couldn’t life anything for a few hours. Mission accomplished.

Since my damn hip flexor/IT band/knee injury, I’ve been really good about lifting more which has been totally out of my comfort zone. Especially since I’ve gained weight…..gained muscle weight. Honestly, I’ve had issues adapting to this. Serious ISSUES. I’ve had to EAT more to gain MUSCLE in order to increase my metabolism to burn FAT. Make sense right? However, coming from someone who has had an eating disorder, it is hard to deal with. Looking back, why does FAT and EAT have to incorporate the same letters? Rude!

Anywho, I am proud that I am stronger and healthier! I’m able to run again and I know things will continue to change with the new modifications to my diet.

Do you have a lifting schedule for each week?

What are your bicep and tricep workouts?

Have you had a hard time with eating more when lifting weights?

XO, Tara

I Love To Hate You.

It’s Thursday and I’ve already managed to get in 3 runs this week! Shut the front door, I know.

I’m over the moon about this since I am still recovering from my hip flexor/IT band/knee injury.

I was feeling pretty freaking awesome during yesterday’s run. It was partly cloudy and around 80. I prefer to run in warmer weather, plus you can work on your tan at the same time. Double win!

Since being injured, I’ve taken so many people’s advice and started foam rolling like a boss. It hurts so good. NOT.

Foam rolling hurts like a biatch, but I believe that it is helping!!

I highly recommend this website for tips on rolling away injuries. has an abundance of great information for injuries.

Tonight instead of running (need to rest my legs), I’ll do some easy cardio and do Body Pump.

Do you foam roll?

Have you been running or overcoming an injury?

Do you use a particular app for running outdoors?

Summer Solstice = Painted/Naked Bike Ride

Fremont was the place to be on the first day of Summer. Tens of thousands of people flocked to Fremont to take part in the Summer Solstice festivities. If you haven’t experienced the Solstice Parade in Fremont, then you are missing out. It is something to see. You’ll see alot…literally.  It is a whole another world.

The festivities had the typical shops to look at, fried food stands, bands, beer gardens, a car show and the parade.

We started out day by walking around the shops, listening to the bands and looking at the interesting cars that showed up.

Yes, there was a “Car Phone.” Hilarious.

The “Lipstick Car”

Here comes the “Superman car” all the way from Texas. We actually chatted with the lady who drove the car up to Washington, she said it was quite entertaining. Could you imagine seeing this car in your rear view mirror?

He found his shop. Tye Dye Everything. Of course, he had to buy a new shirt (tye dye Seahawks colors).

After looking at the shops, it was time to go find our spot to stand on the street for the parade.

People actually bring couches and line the street corners with them. What a fantastic idea.

The parade begins with the Painted/Naked Bike Ride. Yes, some people paint their entire bodies and some just decide to ride a bike in their birthday suit. It was quite something to see (or not want to see).

There were some very unique participants in the parade. Some I didn’t understand, but it was fun to watch.

Did I mention that the weather was perfect on the first day of Summer? I got pretty darn burnt on my face, chest and shoulders. Oweee!

We left the parade a little after 4 p.m. and headed to Bellevue Brewery for a cold beverage and snack, then ran a few errands before I headed out again to The Ram for a quite drink.

I was out like a light when I got home. Zzzzzz!

Have you been to a Solstice Parade?

How was your first day of Summer?

Have you seen any of these crazy cars?

Have a great Tuesday!

After 3 Long Months…

Before I dive into this post, I’ll first say “knock on wood.” Why? I think I may be super close to being injury free!

Yesterday, I was feeling a bit dangerous and decided to try and go out for a run just to test out my hip/IT band/knee issue. I told myself that I would take it slow and not worry about time. I didn’t even start my GPS app. I started running and kept telling myself I can do this, don’t think about time or mileage….just go with it.

So I just went with it and after a few miles I was astonished that my injuries weren’t flaring up. So I decided to keep on going and going and before I knew it my 6 mile-ish run was complete. My knee didn’t hurt, my hip didn’t hurt and my IT band didn’t hurt. I actually felt that I could keep on truckin’; however, I didn’t want to push it too hard.

I feel like a runner again.

I won’t go into what makes a runner a runner, but after taking a long break from running, it is nice knowing that I can  do it again with no pain. Insert super happy face! 😀

With everything said, I am going to take it easy and go with the flow. I won’t push myself or run every single day now. I am going to mix up my cardio between hiking, running, elliptical, etc.

Even though the weather is supposed to be even nicer today, I won’t push myself to run. I mean, yes I want too…I’ll be honest, but I know that I shouldn’t.

Have you battled an injury?

How did you overcome it?

Any tips for me?

XO, Tara

June Activities in Seattle

Only four more days until sum sum summer! I’m so pumped for summer to begin. Summer in Seattle is beyond amazing, because there are so many activities and the weather is beautiful.

Here are some fun activities to take advantage of in Seattle this summer.

1. Fremont Solstice Parade. I’ve been told that this is one parade to definitely check out. Participants paint their bodies and ride bicycles for miles. Apparently, the artwork on the people’s bodies are amazing.

2. Taste of Tacoma. Who doesn’t want to try a bunch of different types of food?

3. Bite of Seattle. This is a goodie too!

4. Get active and check out the Tour de Peaks ride. Choose to ride 25, 50 or 100 miles in the beautiful suburbs of Seattle. Aka, my home town.

5. Seafair Torchlight Parade. Highly recommend it. Plus, there is a 5k prior to the parade.

6. Seafair Air Show. This is a weekend event during the first weekend of August. Super fun! Air shows, hydroplanes, food, and drinks. If you have a boat, it is even better!

7. Watershed 2014. Sadly, it is sold out; however, I’ve found lots of tickets on craigslist. There is hope and the weekend long concert is WORTH IT! I went two years ago and had the time of my life. I hope to go this year.

8. My Birthday….oh wait? Is that an event, sure why not! 😉

9. Ellensburg Rodeo. I really want to check out the Ellensburg Rodeo one day. I’ve heard that it is alot of fun and it will bring out the country in me. 🙂

10. Bumbershoot. Check out some good bands, food stands, vendors, etc. Bumbershoot is known for the last big event of the summer.

I hope you get to check out some of the fun events in Seattle this summer. I hope to check a few off this list.

What are you doing this summer?

Any fun events you are looking forward too?

Are you going to Watershed?

Fun Facts Friday- Friday the 13th Edition

Happy dance, happy dance!

Today is FRIIIIIDAYYYYY—–>Friday the 13th to be exact! Watch out for the black cats and level 13 or whatever else freaks you out on this day.

I’m pretty stoked for the weekend. How about you?

It’s time to get to Fun Fact Friday

1. Look at that good ol’ bruise on my upper thigh. Totally ran into the corner of my side table. I know that I’ve ran into it many times and I still haven’t learned.

2. Breakfast. I’ve had smoothies everyday this week so far for brekkie. I never used to eat breakfast, because I wasn’t always hungry. However, since I am lifting more I know that it would help me physically to consume more protein/food throughout the day.

3. #OITNB- OMG!!!!

4. Escape Club is the dumbest show ever. There was nothing else on last night, so I had to cringe my teeth and listen to this show (background annoyance).

5. Virtual Book Club! I need to figure this out. According to my last post, people are interested in this. Thoughts? How many books a month? Interested?

6. I’m going to a country concert on Saturday and I am pretty stoked for it.

10 bands in one day. Heck yes. However, we will probably show up in the later afternoon.

What are you up to this weekend?

Does Friday the 13th freak you out?

Are you in a book club?

My Summer Book Club

Good morning!

Does anyone else agree that this week will never end? Yesterday was a very long day. Ugh!

After reading The Fault In Our Stars  over the weekend, I decided that I need to get back into reading. I forgot how easy it was to get through a book so quickly while doing cardio. Time just flies on by.

It made me remember how much I was reading a few months ago. Fortunately I got caught up in watching TV shows on Netflix. However, I’ll admit that I was having a hard time finding a book or author that would suck me in. Luckily,  The Fault In Our Stars caught my attention real quick and reminded me how much I love to read.

That being said, I decided to put together my own book club. I’ll be the only one in the club. HA!

I’ve come up (with the help of others, you know who you are) a list of books that I am interested in reading.

Allegiant by Veronica Roth

I’ll admit, I’ve started the book, but haven’t finished. However, it is a hardback which is harder to hold while working out. I will finish it though, don’t worry about that! 😀

Orange Is The New Black by Piper Kerman

What Happened To Goodbye by Sarah Dessen

Paper Towns by John Green

I’m pretty confident that I’ll finish all four of these books in a month or so; however, I don’t want to overwhelm myself.

Reading should be enjoyable and I love to get lost in books.

Do you love to read?

What are you currently reading?

Any recommendations to my list?

Have a great Thursday.

XO, Tara
